Texas Fails to Spend $100 Million in Housing Funds
CPA Housing Forum to be Held in Corpus Christi, November 16-17
Washington, DC — New strategies for states to more fully utilize federal housing dollars targeting low-income communities will be the focus of a Housing Finance Forum sponsored by the Center for Policy Alternatives (CPA) in Corpus Christi, Texas, November 16-17.
Across the U.S. housing finance reform, a cornerstone for community renewal, has languished at the state level. As a result, federal funds desperately needed for low-income housing are returned to Washington. Texas, for example, failed to spend over $100 million in federal money earmarked for low-income homeowners.
The forum will bring together state legislators, community activists, federal and state housing officials and finance intermediaries from across the southwest to develop policies that put federal funds to work and make affordable and safe housing and housing improvements available to low-income householders.
The Center for Policy Alternatives is the nation’s leading non-profit, non-partisan public policy and leadership development organization dedicated to finding state-based solutions that benefit families and communities. The Housing Finance Forum is part of CPA’s Revitalizing Communities program and Southwest Community Policy Forum.
