New Blueprint for Action to be Presented at White House, Congressional Events
America’s Economic Agenda: Women’s Voices for Solutions
April 2, 1998
WASHINGTON — Recognizing and strengthening the roles women play in the economy is the focus of a new blueprint for action released by the Center for Policy Alternatives (CPA) and to be presented to the White House and Congress on April 2 in two separate events.
Recommendations from America’s Economic Agenda: Women’s Voices for Solutions cover a wide range of issues, from equal pay to child care, from health care to entrepreneurship, and offer concrete programs and grassroots strategies for capitalizing on women’s economic power. The report is a result of CPA’s April 1997 Women’s Economic Leadership Summit.
10:30 a.m.: A press conference on the action plan will be held in Room 366, Dirksen Senate Office Building. Principals are: CPA President and CEO Linda Tarr-Whelan, who edited the plan; Senator Mary Landrieu (D-La.) and Representative Connie Morella (R-Md.), who co-chaired the Summit; and Cailfornia State Assemblywoman Grace Napolitano, one of the state legislators who helped build the plan and co-chaired the Summit.
3:00 p.m.: Linda Tarr-Whelan and 100 women leaders from across the country who participated in the Summit will present the action plan to Vice President Gore in Room 450, Old Executive Office Building.
