Policy Center Issues a “Progressive Agenda” for the States
Washington, D.C. – The Center for Policy Alternatives (CPA), a Washington DC-based think tank, has published a book recommending 50 progressive public policies for the states.
The 2003 Progressive Agenda is a 344-page blueprint for state reform. It provides policy solutions, including model state legislation, on a wide variety of issues, including: the environment, education, housing, civil rights, reproductive health, prescription drugs, tobacco taxes, unemployment insurance, and voting reform.
“Conservative interest groups provide a wide variety of resources to support their agendas in the states,” explained CPA Policy Director Bernie Horn. “But the Progressive Agenda is one-of-a-kind. It is the nation’s only compilation of state policy innovations for progressives.”
Because almost every state is facing a fiscal crisis this year, the 2003 Progressive Agenda focuses on low- and no-cost policy solutions. It shows legislators how they can maintain, or even expand, crucial social programs while balancing state budgets.
The Center for Policy Alternatives (CPA) is the nation’s only nonpartisan progressive public policy organization serving state legislators. CPA provides values-based leadership training, develops user-friendly policy tools, and builds progressive networks across the states. Founded in 1975, CPA is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation, supported by foundations, unions, corporations and individuals.
