CENTER FOR POLICY ALTERNATIVES TO HOLD FORUM ON WOMEN AND AFFIRMATIVE ACTION

MEDIA BRIEFING SCHEDULED FOR SEPTEMBER 29 IN SEATTLE

Washington, DC — A media briefing on the positive effects of affirmative action for women in Washington and across the U.S. will be held on Tuesday, September 29, 1998, from 2:00-3:00 p.m. in Seattle. The briefing is part of a roundtable sponsored by the Center for Policy Alternatives’ (CPA) Western Community Policy and Leadership Forum, which is bringing together women state legislators from across the western states to share perspectives on affirmative action.

The impact of affirmative action on women has been most strongly felt in helping women realize their economic potential, whether as employee or entrepreneur. And yet, the positive effects of affirmative action on women’s economic gains has been largely ignored. Summary findings of two new affirmative action studies to be released later in October will also be discussed at the briefing.

The briefing will include remarks from key state legislators, including Washington state Senator Jeanne Kohl, and will be moderated by CPA Executive Vice President Ann Beaudry.

CPA’s Western Community Forum convenes outstanding women legislators from across the western U.S. to build a proactive policy agenda that sustains healthy families and communities. CPA is the nation’s leading non-profit, non-partisan public policy and leadership development center and is committed to developing new leadership to move ideas to action.
