Annual CPA Awards Dinner Honors Progressive Change Across the Country
CPA friends and family will gather at the National Press Club in Washington, DC on June 24 to honor four outstanding leaders who have each been catalysts in promoting progressive change, and to celebrate the members of the 1999 class of the Flemming Fellows Leadership Institute.
As devolution proceeds, our nation depends on the work of state leaders to strengthen our democracy and carry forth policies that will strengthen families and communities. Members of the 1999 Flemming Fellows class stand out for their innovative policy ideas and their values-based
leadership to work across traditional political divides to achieve change.
Lifetime Achievement Award honoree and North Carolina state Rep. Daniel T. Blue, whose long political career began when he was elected to the North Carolina legislature in 1980, was the first African-American elected speaker of the house in a southern state, a post which he has held twice.
Linda Chavez-Thompson, recipient of the Pathfinders Award, was elected Executive Vice President of the AFL-CIO in 1995 and has been a tireless advocate for working women and men for more than 30 years.
Also receiving Pathfinders Awards are Anne Wexler and Joseph Duffey. While each is accomplished in their own right, they are honored because they have each made blazing a progressive trail as a team their life’s work.
Pathfinders Awards are presented to individuals dedicated to finding creative solutions for some of this country’s most difficult problems and putting those solutions to action.
