State Leader: William F. Winter In the March issue of Alternatives, former
Mississippi Governor William F. Winter, a keynote speaker at the W.K.Kellogg
Foundation’s January meeting in Mississippi, was
incorrectly identified. We regret the mistake.
The hallmarks of Gov. Winter’s administration from 1980-84 were education
reform, equal opportunity and better race relations.
He was appointed by President Clinton to the Advisory Board for the President’s
Initiative on Race in 1997-98. Gov. Winter’s record
of public service is longstanding; prior to serving as governor, he was a Mississippi
state representative, state treasurer and lieutenant governor.
