CPA to Honor Chavez-Thompson at Annual Awards Dinner, June 24
Labor leader Linda Chavez-Thompson will receive
a Pathfinder Award at CPA’s Annual Dinner on June 24
in Washington, DC.
Chavez-Thompson, who was elected Executive Vice President of the AFL-CIO in 1995, has been a champion
of all working families during her thirty years in the
labor movement. A native Texan of Mexican descent, she is
the first person of color ever elected to an executive office of
the AFL-CIO and the highest ranking woman in the
organized labor community. Over the years she rose through the
labor ranks to the International Vice President of the
American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Union.
In 1995, President Clinton named her a member of
the Advisory Board to the President’s Initiative on Race. She
was elected National Vice-President of the Labor Council
for Latin American Advancement in 1986 and served in this
role through 1996.
CPA Pathfinder Awards are given to individuals
who have made a life’s work of finding viable solutions to
difficult community problems. Other awardees this year
will include Anne Wexler, Joseph Duffy and North Carolina
state Representative Dan Blue.
