A Plan for Community Investment and Better Child Care
In the struggle to balance work and family
while building community-based enterprises, the business of
quality child care is critical. Child Care Works, a
partnership between Washington, DC banks, community foundations
and non-profit groups which is coordinated by CPA,
provides training, grants and loans to licensed day care
providers who will provide slots for 1,000 children in the District
of Columbia.
In addition to assisting in licensing requirements,
Child Care Works helps DC child care providers with
start-up grants up to $500 and micro-loans of $500 to $1500.
Child Care Works partners are: the Community
Foundation for the National Capital Region, the Department
of Human Services’ Office of Early Childhood Education,
the Metro Bankers Consortium, Arch Family Services, the
Washington Child Development Council, the H Street
Community Development Corporation and CPA. Participating banks
are Crestar, Citibank, Nationsbank, the First National Bank
of Maryland, Riggs Bank, Bank of America and First Union.
