CPA President Confirmed as U.S. Ambassador to U.N.
Following hearings held at the end of July, the U.S. Senate
confirmed President Clinton’s nomination of CPA President Linda Tarr-Whelan to
the rank of Ambassador as U.S. Representative to the United Nations
Commission on the Status of Women.
The confirmation is "a
well-deserved honor for a person who represents a whole new generation
of women leaders," said Barbara Davis Blum, Chair of CPA’s Board of
Directors and President and CEO of Adams National Bank. "The work she’s done on behalf of women as CPA’s top officer has had great impact here in this country and adds real value to her work as U.S. Representative to
the United Nations."
The U.N. Commission on the Status of Women is charged
with monitoring the implementation of the Declaration and Platform
for Action that came out of the 1995 Beijing Conference.
Ambassador Tarr-Whelan will continue to serve as President and CEO of CPA,
as she has since her appointment to the Commission in 1996.
