Mobilizing support for grassroots organizing and a women-driven economic agenda which benefits all families and communities was the focus of CPA’s Grassroots Leadership Retreat July 17-20 in Avon, Colorado.
The conference was co-sponsored by the Colorado Women’s Agenda
and CPA with funding from the Rockefeller Family Fund.
Entrepreneurship, economic self-sufficiency, health, retirement security,
family and work are concerns addressed in CPA’s Economic Agenda to
be introduced in state legislatures in January 1998. At the Grassroots Leadership Retreat, women representing a variety of interests from across
the nation gathered to discuss these issues as well as learn public outreach and fundraising strategies.
"We’re developing an economic agenda that addresses women’s needs and concerns, and at the same time creates stronger and more thriving communities for all Americans," said Anne Mosle, Director of the Women’s Program at CPA.
The Economic Agenda is the result of first identifying concerns of American women through CPA’s 1996 Women’s Voices Survey, then addressing those problems at the April Women’s Economic Leadership Summit held with the White House and now fine-tuning the Agenda at the Colorado
Grassroots Retreat.
The Colorado retreat captured the ideas and opinions of community leaders who are responding to the concerns of American women and families every day and incorporated solutions into the Economic Agenda. The input and support of community-based organizations will be especially important to the success of the legislation package in 1998.
