Entrepreneurship Action Day Will Highlight Policy Impact
On June 3, CPA will coordinate Entrepreneurship
Action Day: It’s Our Business, encompassing media
events in state capitals and cities across the U.S. to promote the impact of
women business owners on our economy.
Women-owned businesses are the fastest growing enterprises in
every state, employing one in four U.S. workers and generating $2.3 trillion in sales.
But a gap remains between women’s economic power and
their unrealized potential. While women own 36 percent of all businesses, a lack
of resources and opportunies results in lower revenues for their businesses.
State policies must close this gap by insuring that these businesses
have the resources needed to reach their potential.
CPA’s state policy checklist, to be released on June 3, highlights
strategies for financing business start-up and growth, training and education
that help women entrepreneurs gain the skills to start and grow their businesses,
access to market opportunities, procurement and building women’s
economic leadership.
Momentum around the events has been growing as June 3 approaches.
Connecticut’s Permanent Commission on the Status of Women held
Connecticut Women’s Entrepreneurs Day on
April 26. Governor John Rowland signed a proclamation supporting women’s
entrepreneurship and day-long Commission-organized events
highlighted Connecticut’s women entrepreneurs.
Entrepreneurship is one of four issue areas identified by women
leaders across the country and is one of the four pillars of CPA’s report,
America’s Economic Agenda: Women’s Voices for Solutions.
