CPA with Lifetime TELEVISION Embarks upon Women’s Voices 2000
|
Women’s Voices 2000, a comprehensive public opinion research initiative, will include focus groups and a nation-wide poll done by a bipartisan and multicultural team of pollsters: Celinda Lake of Lake Snell Perry & Associates, a Democratic pollster; Linda Duvall, a Republican pollster of American Viewpoint; Linda Williams, a nationally renowned political scientist and expert on race and gender from the University of Maryland; and Ana Rivera, a leading expert on opinions of Hispanics and African Americans. This research will probe deeply into what unifies American women and what divides them, what issues they care about, their preferred solutions and underlying values.
Women’s Voices 2000 will be comprised of a series of focus groups to be released prior to the political conventions and a national poll to be released in September 2000. The findings will look not only at the concerns of women today, but will also examine trends on issues such as equal pay, gun violence and balancing family and work, drawing upon the data from the CPA’s research in 1992 and 1996. Women’s Voices 2000 will lift and amplify women’s concerns on the critical issues facing our economy, families and communities into the presidential election process and policy decisions in the future.
Research Themes
- Where do women see a vacuum in values and how would they see them filled?
- As we see dramatic demographic shifts from the aging of the baby boomers to the rise in Generation X and Y to the growing population of Hispanics, how does that change women’s priorities? Are young people engaged in politics? What are their policy priorities for the future?
- We have heard about the "soccer" or "waitress" mom in past elections. Who is the women voter of 2000, how does she live, and what are her hopes and dreams for America?
- Is the gender gap closing or widening? What is the continuing political impact on gender, especially when viewed in light of the work-family bind and policy issues such as gun control?
- Where are the sources of solutions to resolve the problems the country faces? And who’s accountable?
